Due to the historic announcement of a new security and defense alliance last week, Boris Johnson is expected to attend the Washington DC meetings.
The historic AUKUS agreement, in which the United States and the United Kingdom for the first time agreed to share their nuclear propulsion submarine technology with Australia, caught the world off guard. As a result, Australia will be able to construct a fleet of at least eight nuclear-powered attack class submarines to combat China’s growing threat.
Australia has canceled France’s contract because it was late and overbudget. France is very upset about the move.
France’s current nuclear-powered submarine would have been replaced with a less capable conventional-powered submarine for Australia under the $90 billion contract, which was supposed to cost $20 billion.Australia has selected to leave the agreement, as it is legitimately permitted to do, as the agreement contains various leave ways in the event that conditions are not met.
However, AUKUS is not limited to submarines.
The United Kingdom and the United States pledged to provide Australia with their expertise in underwater drones, cybersecurity (both offensive and defensive), artificial intelligence, and even quantum computing as part of the agreement.Concerning taxes, the Prime Minister met with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez, before departing for Washington, D.C.
They talked about the billionaire’s recent pledge to donate $1 billion to environmental conservation, as the Prime Minister is well-known for his concerns about the environment. This is a component of the Bezos Earth Fund, which the founder of Amazon started with $10 billion in February 2020 to support scientists, activists, and non-profit organizations fighting climate change.
